A poster is a page that teaches from six feet away. This rubric scores whether it does: accurate content, a layout that guides the eye, graphics that carry information rather than decoration, and clean text with sources. How to use it
- Do the six-foot test literally: stand back and check the title, the reading path, and the one thing a passerby would learn.
- Require a pencil layout sketch before materials come out; criterion two is won or lost in that sketch.
- Cap decoration time by requiring content complete before any coloring begins.
What students most often get wrong
- Bubble-lettering the title for an hour and hand-scrawling the facts in the last five minutes.
- Printing paragraphs from a website and gluing them on as blocks.
- Charts with no labels, which turn data into decoration.
